Feather reed grass

Calamagrostis x acutiflora ‘Karl Foerster’

Description

This is a cool season grass that grows best with regular moisture and in sunny locations. The thin, linear foliage of the grass grows 2-3 ft. tall during the spring grown season; numerous flower stems develop 4-5 ft. tall in mid-summer and persist into fall. This grass should be cut down to the base in late fall or early winter to make way for a new season of growth.

Many grasses are noted for their dramatic flower inflorescences, particularly when backlighting occurs with low angle fall sun conditions. The Karl Foerster feather reed grass is among the most notable grasses for fall accent character when many garden plants are becoming inactive. It is planted for special accent uses as well as along walkways and in raised planters.
