The Deodar cedar is one of the heritage scale trees of Southern California, with a long history of being planted throughout the Inland Empire. Large and mature specimens can be see along streets, in parks and commercial landscapes almost everywhere. It is adapted to moist winters with snow and summer heat with drought, and can live well over 100 years.

From a landscape perspective, the Deodar cedar is a graceful tree with soft textural character; both branch tips and the tree top droop to produce a slightly weeping habit. This cedar grows best in loam soils with regular moisture during the winter months. Mature trees have proven to be tolerant of heat, aridity and summer drought, when grown in warmer and drier areas of Southern California. It should be planted in spaces that can accommodate its large size. It often becomes a truly magnificent tree that contributes a great presence to many communities throughout the Inland Empire.
