Description

The Ground morning glory is a delightful eye-catching perennial that hugs the ground and flows around rocks and other plants with ease. Its fresh and attractive foliage is covered in spring with a flush of pastel blue flowers that bring cool color to both sunny and shady garden areas.

The Ground morning glory quickly grows 2-3 ft. wide and 12-18 in. tall with herbaceous branching. It does best in partial shade, away from hot afternoon sun, and on well-drained soils. The best performance from this plant is for the first 3-4 years before it looses its dense character.

Water Needs

The Ground morning glory grows well in Inland Empire gardens in areas of full sun and when sustained with periodic summer water. The chart shown below provides a recommended baseline guide to the monthly irrigation schedule and volume of supplemental water needed to maintain healthy growth throughout the average year. It should be noted there are several months indicated by an asterisk (*) when winter rains can provide sufficient moisture and irrigation is not needed. The high and low range of moisture indicates it can grow with varying amounts of water and you should make irrigation adjustments based on field observations of growth and character. Spring flowering will be more robust and last longer when irrigation is scheduled for the higher end of the range from March through May.
