Description

The Fortnight lily gets its name from its recurring two week flowering cycle during spring and into summer. This is a narrow-leaved species that grows to 30 in. tall with medium green leaves that quickly grows to form dense clumps in gardens and landscapes. Pale yellow flowers to 2 in. in dia. have broad overlapping petals with a maroon spot at their base.

This South African species provides fine foliage texture and attractive yellow flowering for accent character among other foliage plants. It is quite robust and should be divided every 3-4 years to maintain suitable size and character. It is a good plant for pots, parkways, around bioswales, and feature elements in raised planters.

Water Needs

The Fortnight lily grows well in sunny locations on many types of soils and with regular summer water. The chart shown below provides a recommended baseline guide to the monthly irrigation schedule and volume of supplemental water needed to maintain healthy growth throughout the average year. It should be noted there are several months indicated by an asterisk (*) when winter rains can provide sufficient moisture and irrigation is not needed. The high and low range of moisture indicates it can grow with varying amounts of water; summer water helps sustain its recurring flowering performance.
